March - May University careers fairs & employer presentations for information.
January - March Applications: applications open in January each year and close in early March. Register for Graduate News to receive advice of the open and closing dates.
April Telephone interview: If short-listed you will be contacted to discuss any additional information we need that was not covered in your application. You may be contacted for more than 1 telephone interview - these will be conducted with human resources, a technical and / or hiring manager. Details about each interview will be discussed with you when we book a time slot with you.
April Psychological Tests: We ask you to do 4 tests for us. One is a personality profile (OPQ) that you will do on line. There are no right or wrong answers to this test but it gives us an idea of your preferred work style. The other three tests give us some information on your numerical, verbal and logical reasoning abilities. These are also undertaken online, and you'll likely be asked to do a verification test a little further along in the selection process.
April Site visits: Rio Tinto sites are located in South Africa and Namibia. Before we offer you a role in a remote area, we want to be sure you know what it's like to live and work there. So we fly you to one of our operations so you can see what it is like, and meet some of the people that you would be working with. We often combine medical examinations with the site visit.
April Medical Examination: Health and safety is a priority for us and we want to know that you are fit to work at our operations. For example, if you have asthma, it's not possible to work in aluminium smelters. The medical exam is an important part of that process and is the final step before we make an offer.
