The Rio Tinto Energy America mines are located near Douglas, Gillette, Newcastle, Wright and Sheridan in Wyoming and Craig and Meeker in Colorado. Each community is characterized by a friendly, small town atmosphere. The company and its employees are active members of each community and strive to help them become sustainable and viable well into the future.

All of these towns are in, or close to, Rocky Mountain country. This is a region of spectacular scenery, skiing, canoeing, white-water rafting, climbing and a remarkable history which dates back to prehistoric times. In northern Wyoming, close to the Montana border is the world famous Yellowstone National Park with its many natural wonders and touring opportunities. The area is steeped in the history of native Americans and the migrant settlers who crossed the mountains on their way west.

At the southern end of Rio Tinto Energy America country is one of America's best located cities, the modern cosmopolitan capital of Colorado, Denver.
