Mining by its very nature will disturb the environment, but if it is done correctly this disturbance can be minimized. Rather than being an observer on the sidelines, I wanted to play in the game and make sure mining was being performed in a responsible and effective manner. In 1995 I graduated from Athlone RTC, Rep. Ireland with a Diploma in Mineral Engineering. I completed my undergraduate studies at Camborne School of Mines, Great Britain, where I graduated with Honors in Mining Engineering. As an undergraduate, I was attracted to Rio Tinto because of its impressive environmental policy and stewardship programs. I also enjoy traveling and experiencing other cultures. Rio Tinto has a diverse work force through the many international operations located in Europe, North & South America, Austral-Asia and Africa.

In 1998, I joined the Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation, in Salt Lake City, Utah - USA. Kennecott Utah Copper is a fully owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto. Kennecott's Bingham Canyon Mine has a rich history in the mining industry and has helped to sustain and grow the Salt Lake Valley area for over 100 years, while caring for the environment. In fact, Kennecott operates the cleanest smelter in the world! In addition to investing in the community, Kennecott has invested in my personal development. I have gained technical, business and leadership experience through various roles, such as Mine Information Systems Administrator, Haul Truck & Shovel Supervisor, Drill & Blast Supervisor, Short & Long Term Mine Planner. My current position is a Black Belt in Kennecott's Six Sigma program. Six Sigma is a data driven quality control project management system.

Rio Tinto also values and actively promotes continued education. I improved my business knowledge by attending the Young Professional Program "Transforming High-Potentials into High-Performers" at the London Business School in 2001. I am currently studying for my MBA at the University of Utah. Rio Tinto has made it possible for me to attend these courses by providing financial assistance and a flexible work schedule.

Rio Tinto has ensured that it will continue to be a world leader in the mining industry by recruiting the best graduates and establishing quality personal development programs. I have enjoyed various challenges over the past seven years and look forward to my continued development and interactions within Rio Tinto.

I completed a Masters of Science in Human Resource Management at Utah State University in 2003. I chose the human resources field because I found that I could use my business knowledge and interpersonal skills to help businesses and employees succeed. I chose Rio Tinto because of the domestic and international opportunities it provides in addition to the emphasis Rio Tinto puts on human resources as a strategic business partner.

I completed an internship with Kennecott Utah Copper during the summer of 2003. At the completion of that internship I was offered a full-time Human Resources Advisor position with KUCC and began my professional employment. In the short time I have been with Kennecott Utah Copper, I have had many development opportunities including training and project work, which have expanded my skills.

My current position is Human Resources Advisor at Kennecott Utah Copper in Salt Lake City, Utah. My role includes recruitment and selection; compensation systems development and administration; policy development; and other service-related human resources duties. I am a team leader for a cross-business unit, cross-functional graduate recruitment project.

I look forward to having opportunities within Rio Tinto to broaden my professional skills and continue to develop and grow. I have aspirations of completing an international assignment with specific interest in Australia. In the near future, I plan to gain broader competency in the area of employee and labor relations.

In the spring of 2002 I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance that included minors in both Decision Sciences and Bank/Financial Services from the University of Wyoming. Following completion of my undergraduate work, I attended graduate school at University of Wyoming. In 2004 I was awarded a Master of Science Degree in Finance.

I started with the Maintenance and Reliability group at Kennecott Energy as an intern working on the Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) contract in the summer of 2002. Following the internship, I continued to consult directly with Rio Tinto and other various Business Units such as Diavik Diamond and Rio Tinto Energy America on the HME contract. In 2003 I worked as Marketing & Sales intern for Rio Tinto Energy America. I helped manage a complete range of customer service projects and assisted in the development of key market indicators. Rio Tinto internships have provided valuable experience.

Currently, I am in the role of Business Analyst in the Business Evaluation Department at Kennecott Utah Copper. I support and analyze various projects cross Kennecott Utah Copper plants. One of our current projects is to analyze the benefit of expanding the size of the open pit, extending the life of the Bingham Canyon Mine.

I have enjoyed working for Rio Tinto and I hope to stay involved within the Rio Tinto organization for years to come. Moving forward I would enjoy changing roles periodically within Rio Tinto while working on continuously improving my own abilities and the success of Rio Tinto operations.

I graduated in May 2004 from Utah State University where I studied Environmental Engineering, as it applies to Industrial Hygiene. While attending university I worked in an under ground coal mine, a municipal water treatment plant, and a research laboratory. This broad range of experience exposed me to numerous challenges and job settings. I began searching for a job in September of 2003 and in March of 2004 accepted a temporary position as an assistant to the Kennecott Utah Copper Senior Industrial Hygienist.

During my time as a temporary employee, I began to realize the opportunities and challenges that would present themselves to a full time employee of a world-class mining company like Rio Tinto. In July of 2004 I accepted a full time position as the KUCC Smelter Industrial Hygienist. Since my induction to the Rio Tinto team, I have had the opportunity to gain numerous certifications and evolve as a professional exponentially faster than I would have imagined.

I am currently working as the KUCC Smelter Industrial Hygienist. This position allows me to participate in the Rio Tinto campaign to maintain the healthiest and most productive mining team in the world.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Rio Tinto Team will support me in being the most effective professional I can be and I look forward to a long career with the company.
