Kennecott Land

Building a better future in Salt Lake Valley

Kennecott Land is a wholly owned Rio Tinto business that exists to build enduring communities on land previously included in mining leases in the Salt Lake Valley.  The intention is to create several new towns or neighbourhoods based on sustainability, economic prosperity, quality education and a healthy and renewable environment.

Based in Murray, Utah Kennecott Land recently opened Daybreak, a new community in South Jordan. The company is currently transforming tracts of land into high-quality communities based around a variety of employment centres offering a mix of office, retail and other commercial uses.

Kennecott Land envisions dedicating approximately half of the land it develops to parks and natural open space, thus protecting the beauty of the Oquirrh Mountains and opening up a vast new frontier for recreation.

Kennecott Land is looking toward the next 100 years and is charting a path for growth that will keep jobs and families in the Salt Lake Valley. It's creating West Bench neighbourhoods that are beautiful, practical and safe. And it's preserving thousands of acres of land as accessible, recreational areas.
