La Granja copper project is located in Peru, in the remote district of Querocoto. The copper deposit is very large - several million tonnes. Rio Tinto La Granja is currently studying the viability of recovering and processing the ore.
We expect to decide whether and how to develop mining operations when the studies are complete - anticipated between 2008 and 2013.
The project has the potential to make a major positive impact on the local and national economy. We are currently building a foundation for sustainable development in the area with local community organisations, especially those involved in health and education.
