Rossing

Relaxation and exhilaration. From stargazing to surfing.

The south-west African nation of Namibia takes its name from the Namib Desert but much of the country, including the Erongo Region in which the Rössing Mine is located, has more than adequate water and provides a lifestyle that can be both relaxing and exhilerating.

Facilities such as schools, transport, hospitals and clinics, the supply of electricity and telecommunication services are generally well established.

The mine is close to the small town of Arandis and 65 kilometres inland from the popular beach resorts of Swakopmund and Langstrand (Dutch for Long Beach). Namibia is famous for its wildlife and rugged Atlantic coastline which together have spawned a growing tourism industry.

From genuine safaris, 4 x 4 trails, diving and fishing to surfing, ballooning, golf, rock climbing and stargazing, Namibia offers a wealth of opportunities to get off the beaten track and do something a little different in a safe and spectacular environment.

While undoubtedly more remote than some Rio Tinto sites, the Erongo Region of Namibia offers something very special to those who seek adventure.
