The biggest and the best
The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) is the largest manufacturer of iron ore and iron pellets in Canada. IOC operates a mine, concentrator and a pelletising plant in Labrador City (Newfoundland and Labrador) as well as port facilities located in Sept-Iles (Québec) on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The company also operates a 420-kilometre railroad that links the mine to the port.
The mine produces a high-quality ore and the resulting pellets are renowned for their quality, consistency and chemistry. They are sold to customers throughout North America and exported to Europe and Asia. IOC, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2005, employs approximately 1,800 people and recently (June 2007) achieved a new daily production record which exceeded the previous best by 8 per cent.
