Rio Tinto Shared Services provides vital support services to Rio Tinto business units globally. It supports business units via three regional groups. Asia-Pacific; Americas; and Europe Middle-East and Africa. In the Asia-Pacific region, Rio Tinto Shared Services operates out of offices in Singapore, Perth and Brisbane although there are several support offices at customer sites.
 
Rio Tinto Shared Services employs around 400 people in the Asia-Pacific region and provides the following services in varying degrees to Rio Tinto business units and support functions:

• IT Service Desk and Site Support
• Payroll and Employee Services (including share plan, medical scheme and salary packaging management)
• Accounts Payable and Cash Management
• Facilities Management (including building management, fleet management, mail and reception)
• Finance and related activities (including fixed assets and accounting, SOX support and insurance claims management)

Rio Tinto Shared Services is part of the Shared Services Roundtable, a highly reputable external body that tracks common performance measures across shared service organisations globally. Other high profile members of the Roundtable include Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Motorola, Walt Disney, Boeing, and Cadbury Schweppes. Membership of the Roundtable allows Rio Tinto Shared Services to benchmark its performance and the quality of its product offerings against the best in the world.
