Rio Tinto Aluminium

From far north Queensland to New Zealand's southernmost tip

Rio Tinto Aluminium manages operations from Weipa in northern Queensland, through Gladstone and the city of Brisbane down to Bell Bay, Tasmania and further south to Invercargill at the foot of New Zealand's South Island.

That's from 18o S to 46.5o S mostly along the Pacific Ocean coasts of Australia and New Zealand. And let's not forget Anglesey, an island off the north coast of Wales in the UK.

Let's start with Brisbane, capital of Queensland a high-tech energetic city capable of providing all the sporting, entertainment and community facilities of a modern metropolis, plus the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise, the Sunshine Coast and whale watching at Hervey Bay just 200 kilometres to the north.

Weipa is a coastal community of around 2000 people. Famous for its sports fishing, the town also offers golf, cricket, gymnastics, soccer and swimming clubs and a range of modern commercial services.

Gladstone is a bustling port which lies at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef and provides all the services of a large town plus a wealth of recreational activities including virtually everything from scuba diving to hot air ballooning.

The Bell Bay smelter is located at George Town on Tasmania's north coast which is recognised as Australia's oldest townsite. The beautiful Tamar Valley supports the island's premier wine region. Nearby Launceston is Tasmania's second city combining elegant architecture with all modern amenities.

Invercargill is New Zealand's southernmost city. Located on a sweeping bay surrounded by snow capped mountains it has a strong Scottish heritage and offers a wide range of cultural and recreational activities plus some of New Zealand's most spectacular scenery.

The island of Anglesey too is rugged and picturesque. Hiking and fishing are popular pastimes and Wales is just a short ferry ride away with Mt Snowden, Conway Castle and the cities of Liverpool and Manchester not far away.
