| September - November | Applications: applications open in September each year and close before the end of the Fall Semester. Register for Graduate News to receive advice of the open and closing dates. |
| September - November | First Interviews: We conduct preliminary interviews when we visit your university and via telephone if we don't get a chance to interview you in person during our campus visit. We ask for any additional information we need that was not covered in your application. We also ask about your interests and start to check how you might fit in with the Rio Tinto culture. The interview lasts about 30 - 60 minutes. |
| September - December | Site visits: Before we offer you an employment opportunity with a Rio Tinto operation, we want to be sure you know what it's like to live and work there. We fly you to one of our operations so you can see what it is like, and meet some of the people with whom you would be working. They also get a chance to meet you and determine if you would be a good fit for the team. |
| October - January | Offers made. |
